Ripple CTO's Regret: Faking Black Sabbath Fan Q&A
Ripple's Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, has publicly expressed regret over his actions during a fan Q&A session for Black Sabbath, admitting he manipulated questions and responses. This occurred when he was an employee at WebMaster, using their ConferenceRoom software.
The Confession
“I cheated,” Schwartz stated in a post on X, reflecting on the event. He described the situation as a personal failure despite external appearances of success.
Behind the Scenes
Schwartz explained that he was tasked with relaying fan questions to the band members, including Ozzy Osbourne (who recently passed away at 76), and typing their responses in real time. However, the overwhelming majority of questions were directed solely at Osbourne.
“I specifically asked the moderators to give me questions that weren’t for Ozzy. There just weren’t any,” he noted.
The Manipulation
To ensure all band members were included, Schwartz used pre-written questions. “I passed a canned question to each of the other band members in rotation. And I mixed what I could make out of what they said with the canned answer from their manager,” he confessed.
He added that only “two or three” legitimate fan questions ever made it to the band, expressing his disappointment that it wasn't the authentic interaction he had hoped for.
Censoring Ozzy
Schwartz also admitted to censoring Osbourne's responses, removing profanity. “Ozzy’s answer featured the C-word a lot... I censored the C-words,” he stated.
