Concerns are mounting in the Pi Network community as a scam exploiting payment requests has siphoned millions of Pi tokens from wallets. This scam capitalizes on blockchain transparency to identify high-balance wallets, prompting the Pi Core Team to halt payment requests temporarily.

Scammers Drain Pi Tokens Through Social Engineering

Scammers exploit the Pi blockchain to find wallets with substantial balances, sending direct payment requests to unsuspecting users. Approving these requests transfers Pi tokens to the scammer's wallet irreversibly. Community accounts warn that this is not a technical vulnerability but rather a misuse of the wallet's design.

"This mechanism is misunderstood as a flaw. It's designed to work this way; losses occur only if transactions are approved," noted Pi OpenMainnet 2025.

The issue lies in social engineering, not protocol failure. Scammers may disguise as legitimate contacts to deceive users into approving transactions.

Scam Operations Traced to a Single Wallet

Blockchain analysis identifies a key wallet involved in the scam, allegedly stealing between 700,000 and 800,000 Pi monthly, totaling over 4.4 million Pi. Data from Pi Network Update shows monthly inflows to this wallet, indicating a coordinated operation.

Temporary Suspension of Payment Requests

In response, the Pi Team has suspended the "send payment request" feature due to intensified scam activity. This measure is temporary, pending additional security assessments. Users are advised against approving unsolicited payment requests, which may be disguised as coming from trusted sources.

This incident underscores the challenge of balancing transparency with security in blockchain networks, highlighting how social engineering can exploit standard features. As of now, Pi Coin trades at $0.20381, showing resilience amid these challenges.
